A French website in English

Its goal is to present Nicolas Sarkozy’s political ideas, ambitions and programme for France to citizens from all over the world, and to convey a clear and unambiguous message about him, his achievements, his campaign, and his political party, the UMP. On this site you will find as complete, as objective and as varied information as possible, made available to anyone who takes an interest in the presidential elections due to take place on April 22, 2007. It will be updated regularly with the latest news about the campaign.

It also aims at dispelling any false rumours, clichés or preconceived ideas that are inevitably spread in the electoral process.

We hope you will enjoy exploring this site, learning from it, and feeling that you are taking part in French politics. If you wish to support Nicolas Sarkozy’s campaign, you are welcome to make a donation through our secure site system: we look forward to your contribution, however big or small. Thank you for your generous help.

Why create an English language site ?

1. Foreigners who are interested in the French presidential election but do not speak French find little information in the press outside France or on the internet about this subject. There are very few documents in English that clearly and fully present Nicolas Sarkozy’s ideas. It was necessary to meet this need.

2. There were about 400,000 French citizens living outside France in 2002, and this number has more than doubled in the last five years. It is necessary to bring them information in English so that they can pass it on to those around them, and to help them share and discuss various views on these issues.

3. Many foreigners know and love France and French people. Why shouldn’t these Francophiles be given the opportunity to form their own opinion about the presidential candidates through bibliographies, political programmes, press reports and links to other English-speaking articles published on the site? And why shouldn’t they be given the possibility to bring some financial support to Nicolas Sarkozy’s campaign if, for some reason or other, they would like to see him win?

4. The big English-speaking media with sources in France are always in need of reliable information. This site can help them learn the real facts and guide them through controversial news and rumours. We want to set the record straight. For example, the press which relies heavily on sensational information, often tends to see the upcoming French election as just a “man versus woman” competition, and to influence people to believe that the two leading candidates’ objectives, ideas, and proposed solutions are not far apart, ideologically or otherwise. In reality, this is very far from the truth. This site shows the candidates’ deep ideological differences, which are far more important than being a mere race between a woman and a man.
